While the Dallas Stars have not yet decided on a plan to move embattled forward Sean Avery, they have apparently decided he will not return to the team. This is a decision evidently reached by players and management alike, and makes a minor league assignment and/or summer contract buy out the likely scenario. But, of all the things Avery has done to warrant such a decision, this photograph may be the most suspension-worthy.
Elsewhere, Tim Sassone of the Daily Herald clears up recent rumors stemming from the ‘Hawks trip to Dale Tallon’s father’s wake and the following trip to McDonald’s. The verdict: mostly true with a few unnecessary embellishments.
Additionally, we can put the Mats Sundin talk to rest. That one was tough to see coming…
Finally, the Blue Jackets are in town this evening, pitting Calder Trophy hopefuls Kris Versteeg and Derick Brassard against each other. (Here’s hoping Versteeg doesn’t try to euthanize him as the clock winds down…) Cristobal Huet stopped 427 shots during the teams’ only other meeting this year, a 4-3 shootout win for the ‘Hawks on November 1 in Columbus. James Wisniewski, who recorded a hat trick during the Rockford Ice Hogs game last night, will not play this evening, and will instead return to the line-up in Edmonton on Tuesday. Team doctors were apparently hesitant to ask him to play back-to-back nights.
Enjoy your Sunday, and we’ll talk at you following the game.
