The Rockford Re-inforcments

The Blackhawks recalled 8 players from Rockford this morning.  The IceHogs season ended last week and what is normal practice around the NHL, the parent club calls up players they want to get extended looks at in practice.

Obviously, the most intriguing players called up were Shawn Lalonde and Kyle Beach.  But an under the radar guy for me is Brian Connelly.  The Hawks signed him last summer as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado College.  Connelly responded by leading Rockford defensemen in scoring with 35 points.  He won’t get the press that Lalonde does but he’ll certainly be in the mix next year for a roster spot.  At least at the beginning of training camp.

Other than those three, it’s a mish-mosh of retreads who don’t bring a whole lot to the table.

Just so we’re all clear, don’t expect to see any of these players in anything other than practice jerseys.  Also, the first person who asks to dress Kyle Beach after the next Hawks loss will be paddled.

John, I dont want to be paddeled but I would not be surprised to see Lalonde or Connely and move Buff up front

  2. John says:

Lee, just keep the Beach stuff down and you’ll be fine. There’s a better chance of me centering Patrick Kane someday than seeing Lalonde or Connelly in the playoffs this year.

  3. AC says:

It should be a nice experience for the youngsters. I hope they are able to watch and learn from the experience and that it lasts about 6 weeks. I don’t expect to see any of them, nor do I really want to see them thrown in. I do hope that Buff is moved to the forward lines and Hendry is given his 9 minutes of d ice time.

  4. Erminio says:

I dont want to paddled either, but if Buff isn’t sitting in from of Luongo I wouldn’t mind seeing Beechs big body in front of him. Of course hopefully thats what Bickell will do!!!!!

  5. feyer says:

I suspect the nucks are expecting “Barcalounger Byfugien” to be moved a bit closer to Luongo’s kitchen as well. More at http://www.theprovince.com/sports/Willes+crease+crashing+Barcalounger+Byfuglien+back/2959713/story.html

  6. Lee says:

    Who’s Beech???

  7. Lee says:

    Cant spell meant Who’s Beach?

  8. dominator says:

Buff is moving back up to forward, not sure who is going to fill in his D spot.

  9. Dave Morris says:

    Good stuff, gentlemen. Thanks.

    Get ready to rumble.

  10. Jack says:

Kesler is sniveling about something again.

You can really develop some hate for a canuckelhead who hails from the D.

  11. Ed says:

Supposedly Buff is moving back up, according to NHL.com. Meaning Hendry or a reinforcement would go back. Unless Johnsson has returned from the dead.

  12. Lou says:

    Bye Ovie.

    4 O6 advance

  13. Nick says:

Looks like the Caps are the Colts of Hockey. Maybe it was too early to give the C to Ovie

  14. Dave Morris says:

Nick>didn’t you know that Ovie had his heart set on joining the LPGA tour?

    Now he can.

  15. Jerry Kayne says:

Hendry did a pretty good job on D this season when called upon. No need for someone with zero NHL experience to join the big club in the do-or-die playoffs.

  16. Otter says:

Does the USA beat Canada and win Gold if Buff is at forward? Or does Kesler try to fight him and end up out of the Olympics?

The Kyle Beach Era can begin next year. Only one thing excites me more than the Kyle Beach Era… and that’s a Stanley Cup. But I other than that, I can’t wait for the Kyle Beach Era. I full expect him to be a cross between Jeff Hanson, Ron Artest, Milton Bradley, and the anti-Christ himself, Dino Ciccarelli.

  17. Otter says:

BTW, if Mike Green wins the Norris after his craptastic play to allow the Habs go up 2-0 win three minutes left… well the Norris Trophy might as well be called the Cy Young Award.

If I was a Caps fan, I’m calling for Green’s head. That was just a brutal play, he didn’t do anything right there and allowed whoever on the Habs to walk in all alone. Even Buff would have messed up that badly.

  18. John says:

In defense of anyone who voted for Green, the voting took place before the playoffs. But yes, that was awful.

  19. Nick says:

@DaveMorris, Now we will get the “Is Michelle Wie better than Ovie?” smothering from ESPN

  20. Nick says:

@Otter, go check out some of the Caps boards and you will see they are doing exactly that.
