It’s A Celebration

If you forgot (and I’m sure you have because we did too), Tuesday November 16th marked the second birthday of the Fifth Feather.  Technically, this is our third season as we started in the middle of November in the 2008-2009 campaign.  You get the point, though.

We would like to thank everyone, lurkers and frequent commenters alike, for making this site what it is.  Without you guys, we very likely would have folded up shop six months in.  We’re still here and we hope we haven’t scared you off just yet.

So with that, let’s hope the Hawks celebrate our birthday week in style by nabbing at least four of the first six points on the Circus Trip.  It’s not going to get much easier than Edmonton and Calgary right off the bat.

Not that this really means anything but the last time the Hawks lost in Edmonton was February 6th, 2008 in a 4-1 decision.  The loss was their fifth straight at the time.

The last time they lost in Calgary, you have to go back all the way to November 22nd, 2006 when they dropped a 4-1 heartbreaker.  Trent Yawney was in the final days of his head coaching career.  Tuomo Ruutu scored the Hawks lone goal with assists from Carl Corrazini and Lasse Kukkonen.  Funny side-note, I once turned Carl Corrazini into a 20 goal-scorer in NHL ’07.  So the game wasn’t exactly the most realistic in the world.  That feels like a lifetime ago.

  5. feyer says:

Congratulations. You have lasted longer then the head coaching career of Denis Savard. Commit to the Feather

  6. Marts says:

Congrats. I like that this sites discussions/topics are kept “hockey” relevant. I like the opinions on SCH, but not that the discussions morph into an unruly string of chat-board magnitude.

This is better, keep up the good stuff!

I’m new to the site this year… prior to this I lived in seclusion with my Hawks opinions for years (Calgary based).

    John & Bob,

My sister and I are devoted Fifth Feather fans, which means there are at least 2 women following your blog. You know what would make me happy? Having the two of you replace Edzo and Foley. Those two bozos could find a new home as zombies on ‘The Walking Dead.’

  11. John says:

Ha! Funny you should say that because somewhere in the Hockey Hall of Fame, there’s audio of Bobby and I doing the play-by-play of the game winning goal of 1987 Summit Series when we were 14 years old. It’s good for about three seconds and then Bobby launched into an old Dale Tallon “The refs are against us” diatribe. So then it’s a minute of him yelling at the officials and me laughing uncontrollably.

  12. Lee says:

    Congratulations

  13. Bobby Hull's Liver says:

First time poster, long time lurker… Congrats on the anniversary, Feathermen. I stop by your site on a regular basis, always assured of some excellent write-ups and commentary. Keep up the good work. Maybe I’ll even add a comment here and there…dumb down the joint to make everyone else look good.

  14. Mark says:

Infrequent commentor, frequent reader. Congrats and thanks for the insightful website

  15. Big Tony says:

Happy birthday guys. This is the only Hawks blog I contribute to, so you know it’s good.

The Walking Dead has replaced Boardwalk Empire as my post-Dexter viewing choice.

  16. Cam says:

The Hawks celebrate by finally beating Edmonton.

And by listening to the post-game callers, you’d think they demolished Gretzky’s Oilers.
